Dr. Asfa also established and directs the award-winning Ziba Medical & Day Spa, which is conveniently located in the same building as Asfa Plastic Surgery, allowing his patients complete access to the safest, clinically proven anti-aging treatments, technologies and medical-grade skincare -- all under one roof.

Training & Background

Dr. Asfa completed his general surgery residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD, where he also served as Chief Surgical Resident. He then moved on to complete a two-year plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) in East Meadow, New York, where he served as Chief Plastic Surgery Fellow. Dr. Asfa attained his medical degree from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Isfahan, Iran, and graduated in the Top 1% of the national college pool. After working for many years as a private general practitioner in Iran, as well as serving as a Lieutenant and Chief Medical Officer for the Iranian Army, Dr. Asfa moved to the United States to pursue a surgical career.

As part of his plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship, Dr. Asfa trained at the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group (now New York Plastic Surgical Group), which is the largest and longest continuously-running practice of its kind in North America. Dr. Asfa worked in its multiple Centers for Excellence, including: non-invasive skin care and age management; cleft lip and palate repair; facial reanimation; microsurgery and peripheral nerve repair; comprehensive facial and body cosmetic surgery; burns and complex wound management; hand and upper extremity reconstruction; and comprehensive aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery. There are fewer than 100 such training programs in the entire U.S.

Professional Affiliations & Involvement

Dr. Saied Asfa is Board Certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Board of Medical Specialties. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a former board member of the Virginia Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Rockingham Medical Society. In 2017 Dr. Asfa was hand-selected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons to serve on the elite committee of plastic surgeons that writes the Cosmetic and Breast In-Service Exam, which plastic surgeons must pass annually to remain Board Certified. For many years, Dr. Asfa was also actively involved in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ annual federal advocacy event, where he met with state senators and members of Congress on Capitol Hill regarding Medicare, Medical Liability Reform, Healthcare Truth & Transparency, Trauma Systems Planning & Development Funding, and Children’s Access to Reconstructive Evaluation & Surgery. He also serves as a preceptor for nursing and physician assistant students at Old Dominion University.

Dr. Asfa is licensed in Virginia and Maryland and holds staff privileges at Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital (RMH) in Harrisonburg. He previously served as Medical Director of the Healogics Wound Care Center at RMH, and continues to serve as an advisor for complex wound management. He was also a founding member of the Valley Outpatient Surgery Center in Harrisonburg. Dr. Asfa has given presentations in his areas of expertise to several professional and consumer groups and has been featured by both local and national news organizations. He is also a regular presenter on WHSV TV3’s Medical Monday segments.
